Day 29, leap year

Well, this extremely fun 29 faces challenge has come to the last day, sadly.
I want to thank everyone that participated making art, and making blog visits and posting. Can't imagine a  better way to celebrate a leap year than with art (ok, maybe with chocolate too!) I made new friends, tried new techniques, admired the work of other artists. Pure joy!

For today, my face is a very lose and splashy beginning of a figurative painting. I didn't want to end the 29 faces challenge, so I am going to leave it in a work in progress, with the promise that there's more to come :o)

I also have another WIP, but in this case I worked on the background first, and sketched a figure later.

This is not the end, it's the chance for another beginning :o) Don't stop painting/drawing/creating!
I am going to make a slideshow video with all my 29 faces, with all the WIPs finished. I will post it when ready, thank for visiting!

Day 28, still working on angel

Here's where I am with the angel painting. I am having fun!

And here's the girl with the braid, I am still working on here, needs more shadowing on her face, however it looks much better with the black line gone. I painted on the braid, neck and face, and still will add more deeper color to some areas:

By the way, in case you have not heard, starting next month (2 more days) they will challenge all the google stuff, gathering sites, privacy settings etc, to give you a "better online experience" but also, to snoop on all your searches, keep a history and gather MORE information from their group of sites (youtube, google+, fb, and some other places. So anyway, if you don't like the idea of loosing privacy and anonymity, you might like to turn it OFF by following this steps HERE

Tomorrow I will post the last of this challenge. ♥

Day 27, WIP Angel

As Mondays go, this was pretty gray and rainy. Frankly I was not inspired all day long, but I am determined, so I made this simple angel. It is like the famous Rafael's cherubs. I have one made of stone in the kitchen so I sketched it.
It is still in progress, but I didn't want to wait and post even later that it is. :o)

Day 26, sunday night

We spent all day out enjoying the nice weather. I had been painting this for days now, but I gave it the last finishing touch today, and it's the face number 26. The colors are more intense, not sure why it looks a bit pale in the blog.

Here's a close of of a detail after the break

Day 25, painting reproduction WIP

For today, I am working on a Frida portrait reproduction. I usually love painting inspired by her, using details of elements from her; this time I'm going as close as possible just for the fun of it. I am not excellent at making a faithful representation, but I'm close enough me thinks :o)

The original from 1930 (in case you can't tell the difference ho ho ho)

And... my daughter's bunch of meme faces from the past days when she couldn't contribute:

That's it for today, hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Day 24 clothless

The picture will be after the jump break so it will not show unless you want o see it (I discovered that the break doesn't show in the feed, just here in the blogspot).
My piece today is a nudie. I haven't painted a nude for the longest time. Years!
I have been using up my paint, instead of leaving it on the palette to dry. So I go and smear, glop, splash, whatever I have left into a new surface, that will become the first layer of that new piece.
Well, I had a bunch of black and I didn't really want to splash the whole thing. I just went with a very lose brush, just playing, delineating until this lady popped up. The arm with the apple was an after thought but it give her the whole theme.

Check after brake for more pics.

February 23, 2012

Day 23 Folk primitive

Remember her? I tried to make this in a naïf  style, kind of primitive, rough and folksy. I was liking her until.... I think it ended up looking sloppy when I went for the black line. I will still work on it, add more paint, hide the hideous line (although a friend of mine that saw it liked it, I guess she was being nice heheheh)

So anyway, that's what I have for today for the 29 faces challenge.
I actually worked on several pieces this morning, they are not scanned yet. Then we went for a college orientation in the afternoon. Can't believe it myself.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you are having fun

Day 22, flowerful

This is one of the ladies I had to finish, and today I just did the last brush stroke on it.
It's darker than my usual. I like that her eyes are distracted, daydreaming.

And my little partner made this drawing. There's a story behind it.

The cat always ignores us, and we KNOW his mind is somewhere else...
Time to go and get my ashes, today we start Lent.

Day 21, a face and some news

First the news: Google will close the "google friend connect" aka Followers, for those non-blogger blogs. It will be in March 1st. That means, if you are part of blogspot, you won't notice much, but if you are in wordpress or webbly, or typepad etc... you will lose your ability to follow, or to have followers from those blogs.
They want to encourage people to have everyone in their "circles" in G+ but frankly, that is more work for most people like me, who hardly ever goes to the Gogl site.

Blog tip: I recommend, you get the feed from those blogs that are not going to have that widget anymore. You don't have to do anything if you have a blogger, since this widget will be back to what it was before, a "followers" gadget.

As for me, it won't affect this little blog if you have a blogger or a G id, but I will hate to miss followers friends from other types of blogs!
So book mark me, the very least. I don't post and show as much in any other site, though I like to tweet and FB, but this is where I expand myself :oP And you don't want to miss my expansions, right? (echo echo echo...)

OK, now for the face, here we go! In my efforts to finish what I started, I will work on this thing.
Acrylics on 11 x 15 watercolor paper.
At this point I'm not sure if I want to start something all together different on top of it, or if I should paint her face after some good eraser treatment heheheh The scanner was acting up, and the colors are a bit off. The sandy floor, more pottery and some flowers are not showing because the paper is too big. The bricks are ok, the sky I like with the texture and all... but the rest, lets say I changed my mind.
Anyway, this is where I am at this point.
I have been trying to pin everyone in Pinterest as much as possible, but the last round will be randomly, in one folder.

Can you believe it's been 21 days already!

February 20, 2012

Day 20 and fun stuff!

This is my face number 20, made in a restaurant paper place mat. Over the weekend we went to San Diego. I had to retouch digitally because the back was brown with letters "Old Spaghetti Factory" and it showed :oP:

Oh, let me tell you something before I keep going about the art stuff... in a blog I read recently, (I will comeback with the link later, I don't have it handy now) they were talking about some "love locks" they have all over Europe's bridges, where they get a lock with the names of the couple, and they leave them in there, with no key. I thought that was so cute... well what do you know I saw the same thing here!
This was not a bridge, but was just as romantic, locks with names all over the fence... we will go back and leave or lock there too ♥

we took this pic

Day 19, quick sketch

This was made in the car, in a scrap of paper while waiting for the kids:
Kind of a creepy eyes Frida :oP

Have a beautiful Sunday ♥

Day 18, face and a video

For the Vang Gogh lovers, I have an awesome video to share:

Starry Night (interactive animation) from Petros Vrellis on Vimeo.

Sketchings:

Made by my little partner: (I personally think it is very creative, but I'm the mom♥ and adore her)

Day 16, sketch of a girl

Update:
The verification code is a pain in the neck. Adds time to a simple action and kills the fun of posting a comment. Blogspot has some issues in some servers (or something of the sort) and in some cases takes several tries just to post a happy note, which at the end is a desperate cry for help. Please, if you really want visitors to comment on your blog, get rid of that plague. They upgraded it to something even MORE complicated now. Sorry for the rant.

Now to the post! :o)
I will be working on this girl with a braid, I was unsure if I wanted her holding a heart, a flower or a clay pot. As you can see, the clay pot won.

Sorry about the lousy scan. The water paper does not like to be scanned :oP And I didn't want to go heavy with the pencil. I am having so much fun with this 29 faces challenge! I will be visiting all on Monday, to upload to Pinterest as well.

This one has no rhyme or reason, sometimes the characters come like that ;o)

February 15, 2012

Day 15 another bald guy

For my face of today, I played with some effects on the original painting just for fun:

The full image is this, based on some of my ACEO size lonely guys, but this is in a 12 x 9 watercolor paper:

February 14, 2012

Day 14, love!

Happy Valentine's day! For this day I made a Frida in ACEO, with a broken heart. I don't know why I ended up making a sad face, but seems it is more like her.

My little partner made this funny thing: A sock missing the other one:

I hope you had a wonderful day. I did ♥

February 13, 2012

Day 13, WIP

Several people asked if they could see the "zombie lady" in just the pencil (remember I had posted just the photo edited version?) Well, I fixed her eyes a bit, she is still zombie-ish, but she's on her way to get colorful.
It will have another 80 layers by the time I'm done, but so far this is what's done today.

We have had crazy weather.... it was cold, then next day we had a sunny 80F weather, just to go back to cold and today, hail!
We need the rain so I'm not complaining, but really... it was the day when my son was to have his driving test for the license... you figure the end.

Day 12, finished the lady

I have been splashing a bit of paint here and there on the drawing I made for Day 4
At several stages I was going to give up and toss it away, but decided to just keep adding more layers of color and this morning it finally turned for the better.
I am still not happy that she doesn't want to look at me, (I love making the portrait look at the viewer right into the eye) but I guess that's the way she is. Her mind is in her art probably. I hope by now it shows that she is holding a paint brush ;oP
(acrylics, collage, on 4.5 x 6 watercolor paper)

And for today, my daughter has a mad cigarette fuming. Her own campaign to show smokin is not good for you.

Day 11 weekend hurry

Well, spending most of the day out doesn't help much, but I really don't want to brake the challenge...
Even a little thing counts!
Out of my ongoing little girls ACEOs, I have this tiny character that seems I'm making all the time:

And the one from my daughter:

Gotta go now!

Day 10, another doggy

This is Burt. He went to heaven last December. But he lived a long and happy life, and now he will be remembered with this painting as well.

I can't believe I completely forgot last night when I started the background, and today to take pictures while painting! But that's what happens when I get too much into it, I don't think of cameras etc. So I don't have any in progress pics, but it is the same as in last post. I even used the same palette. Ochre, raw umber, white, blue and green, and red for the collar.
For some reason, pet's eyes are harder for me to do than humans.
The  angle and proportions are a bit funky, but I think in general, it still resembles the little Chi dog?

And my kid's face of the day, inspired on a video of a weird song called Rocketship she saw in Futurama; a sock puppet martian....?

Day 9, bunch of pictures

For my face a day, I painted a dog. She is a very special dog that now lived in doggy heaven.I painted this for a dear friend who is missing her so much, after many years of companionship. I hope she likes it ♥
Acrylics on 11x14 canvas
(Tomorrow I am doing another doggy in heaven)

Also, a drawing from my daughter:(She doesn't really need one, but don't tell her I said that)

Keep reading after the brake so you can see work in progress pictures, and another drawing from my girl that I forgot to include yesterday :oP

February 8, 2012

Day 8, pencil drawing

For today, I have this portrait of Gotye. In case you don't know who he is, he is a Belgian-Australian musician who has replaced Rupert Penry-Jones in my book, just because he sings :o] Sorry Rupert.

14 x 17 vellum Bristol, sketch and wash graphite, and watercolor pencils in the eyes.
I didn't quite capture his beautiful eyes, but at least I think he looks like him... what do you think?
See his video below and tell me:

Day 7 drama

So last night my husband updated the Office program, and it deleted my favorite photo editor! The one I have been using for ages. Great.... I spend hours trying to see what could be done. Then I gave up till the expert (my DH) could come to the rescue.
I spent hours uploading to Pinterest, and I know I have to do things differently, because after all my work, there's people that has not been uploaded.
(* I will need everyone interested to upload their own, send me a note to make you "contributor" in the boards. You don't need to do it if you don't like the idea or you are not in that site, no problem.)

So anyway, I had this photo editor drama, and so many hours doing stuff, that I didn't really work on my piece till late. And to stress me even better, Microsoft didn't want to get fix.
It is 10:50 pm, and just now I was able to crop my picture.
With more ado, here it is, in progress: (Acrylics on canvas, I posted this before, with less work on it)

Day 6 unfinished

Hello! I am not done with this painting by far, but it's time to post! I still have to do the flowers, clothes, hair, shading  etc... But here we go:

I made a crazy version on the photo editor just for fun

And this is my daughter's face of the day. Some kind of scary  "me gusta" meme:

Now I will go and add all the new entries to Pinterest. I think I will open another folder, that one has like 100 pieces already! I'm not sure how many can be in a folder, any one knows?

Thanks a BUNCH! I am having such a great time with all your participation and epic art works!
Hugs!
P.S. note: Please make sure your verification code if you have it is working right, or cancel it for a while. I am told blogger has issues in many blogs (I guess servers?) and people can't post. I myself have not been able to post in some blogs because the window blocks it, but requires it... go figure!.

Day 5 Outlined drawing and a funny hand

My piece for today turned out looking like a zombie, so I took it to a photo editor and made it into an outlined drawing.

This is less scary than my first version :oP
Whenever I make a pencil drawing and shade it, it takes me a long time and the weekends are proving to be a bit difficult. Of course if I had no challenge I would have tons of free time right?

This is my daughter's "face". She surprises me all the time!

I guess a face is a face as long as it has the necessary elements!
Thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow!
Hugs to everyone, I will be visiting soon to add you all to Pinterest

Day 4 .....in a rush!

I only managed a pencil sketch today, and I have one foot out the door. That's what happens when you wake up late :oS A lot of stuff going on here, but at least I managed. And that's one important thing, to make a tiny room for art everyday. Keeps you sane! (or keeps you crazy enough to deal with the world!)

The watermark is not where I wanted it, but no time to fix it now, maybe later agh!
I am posting here my daughter's  as well, I have been posting them in FB

You can tell who her favorite model is ;o)
Have a good day, I'll see you all tomorrow! Will be adding to Pinterest on Monday

Face number two

It is still wet, and it is just part of the whole painting, as I wanted to take the picture a bit closer.
I started this last night, and this morning it's almost done. I still want to add more highlights but since it is almost noon I'm posting now.

Yes, it gets windy around here lol
If you are in the challenge make sure you are in the linky if you have a blog, so people can see your work.

First face and a trick

Here's my face #1 of the challenge, 4x6 fresh from the  desk:

Then I took it to the photo editor to make a mirror image and see what happened:
