The awesome live lessons of Soul Food are finished.  The rest will be self paced for those that joined, and I have to say, it was a great experience! From every point of view!
I made a little cartoon drawing for the ladies that took us all in this fantastic trip:
 Mystele, Heather and Jeanette.

I will be offering my class from there soon! Keep an eye for updates ;o)

Face in the World updates

My faces came back!
The 1st one on the left is Melissa's. The other 2 are mine, back from their travels overseas:

And this is what I added to the one I will mail this week: a crown and turquoise neck decoration, plus gold details. I also sealed the hair with medium.

I don't think I posted the one Anita started? It was mailed last week, I added more hair and a few touches to lips and eyes. I am planning to make a video slide with all of these ladies to see them transforming :oD

WIP of a woman

Every time I have to wait for something, I draw. I guess you can call it doodle? But only that I make faces. All the time. Yes.
Any scrap of paper is good as long as the pen rolls :oD

This is one I found in my purse and since I still liked it, I scanned it, then cleaned the extra lines.

A Frida, a heart

Making random Fridas for the month July, along with more hearts!
I'm going to add color to her, just not sure if manually or digitally. Maybe both?

More gelatin mono-printing. I'm in love!

Hearts!

One more time I'm running to chase myself and can't keep up hahaaha
I posted in FB an invitation about the "Hearts in July" project/activity. -Formerly known as 31 hearts- I don't call it a challenge necessarily, but I think I should since it seems to be a challenge just to come scan and post! (°‿~ )

Anyway, for those that did not see it in FB, feel free and totally invited to paint/create/find hearts around you. I picked July because it is our wedding anniversary month, and also because it is not fair that only February is all decorated with hearts ( ♥‿♥)

Here is one of my hearts, gelatine mono print, and digitally modified a bit just for fun:

Let me know if you make any hearts to go see them!
Thanks for visiting

Happy birthday Frida!

One of my favorite painters is Frida Kahlo. I love her folkloric elements in her painting, her self portraits are very interesting, can't stop finding new things and inspiration from them!
I do not agree with all her personal or political interests but you take the person with her time, era and influences and that rounds in a sense a life.
Back in high school I made probably 11 self portraits emulating her style but with a twist: I made myself of different races and skin colors lol I wish i still had those papers!

Today is her birthday and I thought of sharing some images and  links here.

A few years ago google made a logo of her:

Her last entry in her diary made many people think her death was not natural, talking about a joyous exit and hoping never to return, but the fact is that her health was terrible and her spirits very low, she had been declining for years:

I think this is my favorite photo of her, smiling:

If you want a short version of her life, this is a very interesting page HERE
To see some of her art click HERE
And some of my paintings inspired by Frida HERE

I'd love to see your comments! Thanks for visiting ♥

Monoprinting is addictive...

... and fun!
I made some stencils and used a variety of papers.
So far I can tell you the best paper to use for gelli printing is not watercolor paper.
Bristol, sketch and regular printer paper are very easy to use but you have to add medium to make it more permanent, specially if you are not going to use it as collage (where I end covered in layers of medium anyway).

Enjoy!
